Your Input Is Needed: Validating Updated Entry-Level Competencies for RNs and LPNs

last updated: March 23, 2026

CANNN is participating in a national process to update the Entry-Level Competencies (ELCs) for Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses across Canada.

Entry-level competencies define what a nurse must be able to know and do at the point of entry into practice. Keeping these competencies current ensures that newly registered nurses are prepared to provide safe, competent, ethical, and compassionate care — and that the public can have confidence in the nurses who care for them.

The Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators (CCRNR) and the Canadian Council for Practical Nurse Regulators (CCPNR) have developed updated validation drafts of both sets of ELCs. Nursing regulatory bodies across Canada — including CANNN — are now asking registrants to review and validate these drafts through a short survey.

Your input matters. The survey results will directly inform the final versions of the competencies, which will be submitted for Board approval later this year.

RN Validation Survey This survey is open to all Registered Nurses (RNs) registered with CANNN.

LPN Validation Survey This survey is open to all Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) registered with CANNN.

Survey closes: April 17, 2026
