Where CANNN Sits Nationally

last updated: March 16, 2026

CANNN doesn’t just regulate nursing in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut — we bring the north to the national table. As your regulator, we hold seats on the national bodies that set standards, share research, and shape the future of nursing regulation across Canada. That means the standards that govern your practice here are connected to — and informed by — what’s happening coast to coast.

National bodies CANNN participates in

RNs and NPs — Canadian Council of Registered Nurse Regulators (CCRNR) CCRNR is the national organization for registered nurse regulators across Canada. CANNN’s membership means NWT and Nunavut registered nurses and nurse practitioners are represented in national conversations about registration standards, entry-to-practice requirements, and regulatory best practices. ccrnr.ca

LPNs — Canadian Council for Practical Nurse Regulators (CCPNR) CCPNR brings together practical nurse regulators from across the country. Through our seat at this table, CANNN contributes to national standards and regulatory frameworks that affect LPNs practising in the NWT and Nunavut. ccpnr.ca

RPNs — Registered Psychiatric Nurse Regulators of Canada (RPNRC) RPNRC is the national body for registered psychiatric nurse regulators. CANNN’s participation ensures that RPNs in the NWT and Nunavut have a voice in shaping the national regulatory landscape for psychiatric nursing. rpnrc.ca

Also at the table

CANNN’s national participation extends beyond nursing-specific bodies. We are also members of:

CNRC — Canadian Nurse Regulators Collaborative — the umbrella body that connects CCRNR, CCPNR, and RPNRC, advancing regulatory excellence across Canada.

NCSBN — National Council of State Boards of Nursing — an international body through which nursing regulators counsel together on public health, safety, and licensing standards. ncsbn.org

CLEAR — Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation — the premier international network for professional regulators across all professions and jurisdictions. clearhq.org

CNAR — Canadian Network of Agencies for Regulation — the only Canadian association supporting regulators across all professions, connecting CANNN to the broader national regulatory community. cnar-rcor.ca
