The College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN), alongside the Northwest Territories Medical Association (NWTMA) and the Union of Northern Workers (UNW), have released a joint statement emphasizing the urgent need for 24/7 in-person emergency physician coverage at Stanton Territorial Hospital. The current reliance on 12-hour shifts and an untested virtual ER model poses unacceptable risks to patient safety and places undue pressure on nurses and healthcare workers.
Together, the organizations call on territorial leadership to take immediate action to ensure safe, consistent, and in-person emergency care for Northerners.
