  • All registered nurses who are currently registered elsewhere in Canada and who wish to register with CANNN for the first time, and;
  • Canadian nurse graduates who wish to register with CANNN for the first time

We have recently moved over to a new software platform and are working on developing the online initial application. In the meantime, contact info@cannn.ca to begin a new application. We will ask for details about your education, work experience in nursing, and other registration details and use this information to create an account and profile for you in our system.

    • Two pieces of government-issued ID that are in colour and contain a signature. One identification minimum must contain a photo.
    • Legal name change: Where there has been a name change, one of the following is required:
      • a marriage  certificate, or
      • divorce decree, or
      • notarized statutory declaration of legal name change
         
    • Verification of Registration is required from all nursing jurisdictions in which you are currently or were formerly registered.
  • Form A2 Evidence of Practice Hours: This form is to be completed by employers from within the past 5 years. The evidence of practice hours form is to validate that the minimum practice requirement has been met (1125 hours in the past 5  years or 450 hours in the past 2 years). Forms must be sent directly by the employer to CANNN.
  • Information Sharing Consent Form – this form is used to grant permission to provide updates on an applicant’s registration status to their NT and/or NU employer.  The form is recommended but optional.
  • A criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening dated within the past six months. 

Upon application to CANNN for registration, all applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the English language by meeting one of the following requirements:

  • Graduation from an approved Canadian nursing program where theory and clinical instruction was in English (on-line or distance education programs are not acceptable for evidence of fluency); or
  • Employer English proficiency reference showing evidence of safe practice and where the primary language, practice setting, and services are in an English-speaking and writing environment for the previous two years as a nurse in Canada – Form D Employer Confirmation of English Language Proficiency
  • Applicant met the English language proficiency test requirement at the time of registration with another Canadian jurisdiction and has continued to work in an English-speaking and writing environment since that time; or
  • Demonstration of English language competence through successful completion of one of the following tests of English within the last 2 years:

    Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN)
    International English Language System (IELTS) Academic Version.  The online version of IELTS is not accepted
    Occupational English Test (OET)

  • Evidence of successfully passing an entry-to-practice exam accepted by CANNN
  • Transcript Request Form
  • Form C Instructor Reference Form – this form is to be completed and submitted by a nursing faculty member from the applicant’s school of nursing and must be sent directly to CANNN from the referee
