Entry-to-practice Exam

This is a two-part process. You must apply to both CANNN and Pearson Vue — both applications must be submitted at least 30 days before your desired exam date.

Step 1 — Apply to CANNN: Submit your NCLEX-RN application form, payment authorization, Form G(1), Form C, two pieces of ID, and criminal record check to info@cannn.ca.

Step 2 — Register with Pearson Vue: Register at pearsonvue.com/nclex. Your registration remains open for 365 days from when CANNN receives confirmation.

Step 3 — Authorization to Test (ATT): Once CANNN declares you eligible, Pearson Vue will send you an ATT email. You must write the exam within the validity dates on your ATT. Bring your ATT documentation on exam day.

Results: You will be notified of your results by CANNN — do not contact Pearson Vue for results.

Cost: $42.00 CAD (CANNN) + $360.00 CAD (NCSBN). An additional $50.00 fee applies for any changes to your Pearson Vue registration.

Two separate processes — what to expect

Registering with CANNN as a new graduate involves two related but distinct steps:

1

Exam application

Before you can write your entry-to-practice exam, you must apply to CANNN to be declared eligible. This involves submitting specific documents and an exam application form — requirements vary by designation. Refer to the exam details in your designation tab below for specifics.

2

Registration application

After passing your exam, you apply for full registration with CANNN. Some documents overlap with your exam application, but this is a separate process with its own requirements.

The requirements listed in each tab below apply to your full registration application. For exam-specific requirements, refer to the exam pages linked in each tab.

Internationally educated nurse?

If you completed your nursing education outside of Canada, CANNN has a dedicated pathway to guide you through registration — including assessment through Inspire Global Assessments.

1

Apply to CANNN

IEN application fee: $2,415.00 (incl. GST). CANNN refers you to Inspire Global Assessments.

2

Inspire Assessment

English proficiency, credential assessment, and nursing competency assessment.

3

Registration Decision

Once eligible, submit formal application and pay registration fee. Licensing typically takes 5–7 business days.

Common Questions

Applicant FAQs

Once all requirements have been met, it takes 10–15 business days for CANNN to follow up with questions or a decision on your registration.

Until your application is approved and you pay the registration fee, use the Applicant Portal — not the Member Login. The Member Login becomes available after official registration. Note: phones and tablets are not compatible with the Applicant Portal. Use a computer.

No. All forms must come directly from the source — employers, instructors, and regulatory bodies must submit forms directly to CANNN by email or fax. CANNN does not accept forwarded forms from applicants.

Your application remains active for six months from when you initially apply. However, if your application expires before your registration is complete — for example, if you are waiting for a later NCLEX write date — most of your documents can be carried forward to a new application. Documents that transfer include your Form G(1), instructor reference, criminal record check (if still within 6 months), photo ID, and any accommodation letters. The only documents you would need to resubmit are the exam application form and payment authorization form. If you have concerns about your timeline, contact info@cannn.ca early — CANNN can work with you.

No — as long as your application is still valid (within six months of initially applying), you can wait to pay. However, your registration will not become active until the fee is paid.

You are responsible for requesting forms and documents from third parties, including other regulatory bodies. CANNN does not request forms on behalf of applicants.

Sign in to your Applicant Portal regularly. As forms and documents are received, they are added to your application and marked as received. CANNN does not send individual reminders about outstanding documents.
