Internationally Educated Nurses
Are you an internationally educated nurse (IEN) looking to become licensed in the Northwest Territories or Nunavut? We’re here to guide you through each step of the registration process with support and clarity.
Before You Begin: Please ensure you have all the required documents before starting your application. This helps minimize delays and ensures a smoother experience.
Step 1: Apply to CANNN
To start your licensing journey, apply to the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN). You must be referred by CANNN before beginning the assessment process with Inspire Global Assessments.
- Complete the IEN Application Form
- Upload valid government-issued photo ID (and legal name change documents if applicable)
- Pay the application fee: $2,415.00 ($2,300.00 + $115.00 GST)
- Fill out the Inspire Application Payment Authorization Form.
Once your application is submitted, CANNN will review your documents and refer you to Inspire Global Assessments.
Step 2: Assessment by Inspire Global Assessments
After referral, you’ll receive a welcome email from Inspire with login instructions for your account.
Inspire will guide you through the assessment process, which includes:
- English language proficiency
- Educational credential assessment
- Nursing competency assessment. Learn more about Inspire’s competency assessment
You’ll be asked to submit:
- Notarized identity documents (PDF, JPG, PNG)
- Proof of English-language proficiency
- Application fee payment
Many of these steps can be completed simultaneously.
Step 3: Decision Process
After the assessment, Inspire will send a report to CANNN. The Registration Committee will review it and make a recommendation to the Registrar about your eligibility for licensure.
Step 4: Final Steps for Licensure
If deemed eligible:
- Submit a formal application for registration
- Provide any additional required documentation
- Pay the registration fee
Once all documents are received and approved, licensing typically takes 5–7 business days.
⚠️ Important: It is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate immigration status to complete any transitional education required and to work legally in Canada. CANNN is not able to provide immigration advice.
