You have a concern that a nurse may be practising without a valid licence in the Northwest Territories or Nunavut.

Node 1

Is this person currently listed on the Find a Nurse tool at cannn.ca?

Find a Nurse only displays nurses who are currently active and in good standing in the NWT or Nunavut. If you are an employer, you are responsible for verifying registration before engaging any nurse — full-time, part-time, contract, or volunteer. Registration in another province or territory does not permit practice in NWT or Nunavut.

Node 2

Is the person performing nursing duties or representing themselves as a nurse?

If a person is not registered with CNNN and is performing nursing duties or holding themselves out as a nurse, this is a serious matter. CNNN does not have administrative jurisdiction over unregistered individuals — this may be a criminal matter.

Good practice for employers: verify before you engage

Employers are responsible for confirming that any nurse they engage — whether full-time, part-time, contract, or volunteer — holds a valid CNNN licence before they begin practice. Use the Find a Nurse tool at cannn.ca to verify. If you are unsure about a nurse's status or eligibility to practise, contact CNNN before engagement — not after.
