Active Committees

Each committee has a dedicated role in shaping the profession. Expand the sections below to learn more. Opportunities are currently open across multiple committees.

  • An ad hoc committee that audits and provides peer review of Registrants’ Self-Assessments and Professional Development Plans (PDPs) as part of CANNN’s Quality Assurance Program.
  • Supports the transition from the existing Continuing Competency Program to a Quality Assurance (QA) Program in 2026, aligning with national standards.
  • Composed of at least two nurses from each designation (RN, RPN, NP, LPN), with one from each territory — appointed annually for the duration of the QA audit process.
  • Reviews standards of practice, emerging trends in nursing practice, and clinical guidelines or resources developed by CANNN to ensure alignment with all regulated designations before they go to the Board of Directors.
  • Meets quarterly or on an ad hoc basis to respond to items raised by CANNN or emerging issues identified by members.
  • Up to nine members, with preferred representation of one nurse per designation (RN, NP, LPN, RPN) from each territory — three-year term.
  • Reviews complaints against CANNN registrants that are referred to or made directly to the Committee, and makes orders in accordance with the NWT and Nunavut Acts.
  • Powers include: dismissing complaints, ordering investigations, accepting undertakings, censuring registrants, accepting voluntary surrender of registration, and referring matters to a Board of Inquiry.
  • May suspend a registrant’s practice permit or impose limitations on their entitlement to practice while a complaint is under review.
  • Minimum three registrant members plus at least one public member — three-year term, maximum nine years.
  • Reviews appeals by applicants or registrants who have been refused registration or a licence, refused renewal, or had conditions or restrictions imposed.
  • Conducts eligibility reviews referred by the Registrar or Deputy Registrar, including Internationally Educated Nurses, fitness-to-practice reviews, and applicants with self-declared circumstances that may affect safe practice.
  • Renders written decisions with reasons after each review; may extend an existing licence pending the outcome of a review.
  • At least seven nurses with representation from both territories and all designations, plus at least one public member — three-year term, maximum nine years.
  • Recommends standards for nursing education and the process for approving nursing education programs to the Board of Directors — evaluated at least once every five years.
  • Reviews standards and approval processes for programs offered in NWT and Nunavut, as well as recognition of programs offered outside both territories.
  • Performs any other tasks relating to nursing education referred by the Board, CEO/Registrar, or Director of Quality Practice.
  • Up to nine members including at least three nurses in good standing, one public member, and members recommended by the relevant Ministers from both NWT and Nunavut — three-year term.

Registered nurses, nursing educators, and professionals with relevant experience are encouraged to apply. Community members without a nursing background are also welcome — submit a community application form.
Most committees require monthly or quarterly meetings, with additional time for document review and contributions between meetings. Time commitment varies by committee and by the volume of work in any given period.

Yes. Indicate your preferred committee(s) when submitting your application and we will review to ensure there are no conflicts of interest. If there is a conflict, you will be contacted to discuss further.
