Navigating the renewal portal
I can't log in to my account
Make sure you’re using the correct login link and signing in with the email address on file with CNNN. If you’ve forgotten which email you used, contact intake@cannn.ca.
I'm not being prompted to pay
If no payment option is showing, one of two things is happening: your renewal application is currently under review by the Registration Team, or you are a virtual care registrant whose fee is covered by the NT Department of Health.
How do I check my renewal status?
Sign in to your Member Login to view your current registration status. You can also use the public Find a Nurse directory to verify your registration is active.

Common Situations
What happens if...
Knowing what to expect helps you make informed decisions about your registration.
Standard
I renewed before December 15 but haven't received confirmation
Processing typically takes time during peak volumes. Sign in to your Member Login to check your status. Your membership card will be visible once renewal is fully processed. If you completed renewal and payment and have not heard back within 10–15 business days, contact info@cannn.ca.
Late Fee
I submit my renewal between December 16–31
A $100 late fee will be applied. Renewals submitted during this window are not guaranteed to be processed before January 1. If your registration is not active by January 1, you cannot legally practice in the Northwest Territories or Nunavut until it is approved.
Reinstatement
I did not renew before December 31
Renewal is no longer available after December 31. To practice in the new registration year, you must complete the reinstatement application. Reinstatement is a separate process from renewal and has different requirements.
Leave
I am on maternity, disability, or other leave
All active registrants are required to renew and complete QAP requirements each year, regardless of leave status. The expectation is that you remain current in your area of practice. If you do not wish to maintain an active registration during leave, you may choose not to renew — however, reinstatement will be required before you can return to practice.
Practice Hours
I don't meet the practice hours requirement
If you cannot demonstrate 450 hours in the past 2 years or 1,125 hours in the past 5 years, you may need to complete a nursing refresher program. If you work in a non-traditional nursing role, your hours may still qualify — contact info@cannn.ca for an assessment before assuming you do not meet the requirement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Renewal FAQs
What browser and device do I need to use?
How will I know when renewal opens?
Until your application is approved and you pay the registration fee, log in using the Member Login. Note: phones and tablets are not compatible with the Member Login. Use a computer.
The payment page didn't come up. What does that mean?
If no payment option appeared after completing your renewal application, your application is currently under review by the Registration Team. Allow 1–2 business days during peak periods. You will be notified when your application is approved and payment can be processed.
Exception: if you are a virtual care registrant, your fee is paid directly by the NT Department of Health and no payment will be required from you.
How can I verify my registration is active after renewal?
Sign in to your Member Login or use the public Find a Nurse directory. Your membership card and certificate for the new registration year will also be visible in your account once renewal and payment are complete. Notify CNNN immediately if you notice any issues with your registration status.
My contact information has changed. What do I do?
Update your contact information through the Member Portal as soon as changes occur. Use personal contact details rather than employer information to ensure communications reach you consistently. CNNN sends all renewal notices to the contact information on file — it is your responsibility to keep this current.
I renewed but I'm still getting reminder emails. Should I be concerned?
Not necessarily. If you completed your renewal and payment, your application may still be in a processing queue. You can verify your status by signing into your Member Login. If your renewal shows as complete and you are still receiving reminders after January 1, contact info@cannn.ca.
What payment methods are accepted?
CNNN accepts Visa and Mastercard only. Your registration will not become active until payment has been successfully processed.
Do I have to complete QAP if I'm on leave or in a non-clinical role?
Yes. All active registrants are required to complete QAP requirements each registration year, regardless of leave status or practice setting. Both a clinical and a non-clinical version of the Self-Assessment Questionnaire are available. Access QAP resources →
