2024 Approved Bylaws
This document outlines the bylaws governing the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN), effective September 25, 2024. It includes key definitions, corporate matters, governance structures, and the responsibilities of the Board of Directors, among other essential components. These bylaws ensure the integrity of the nursing profession, establish procedures for professional conduct, and guide the operation of the College in both territories.

Bylaw 21 remains in effect. The employer-based policies, guidelines, and formularies that registered nurses (RNs) use for dispensing, compounding, packaging, and administering drugs continue to apply under this bylaw. Equivalent policies, guidelines, and formularies for licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) are still in development. The bylaws authorizing LPNs and RPNs to dispense, compound, package, and administer drugs are awaiting recommendation from the Minister.
Definitions
In these bylaws, unless the context requires otherwise:
- “Act” means the Nursing Profession Act;
- “Board” means the Board of Directors established pursuant to Section 13 of the Act; and
- “Standards” means the Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners
